TIPS AND IDEAS |
BACK TO SCHOOL:
One of the most important school documents to have is a 504 Plan for your child.
What is a 504 Plan?
It is a plan designed to accommodate the unique needs of an individual with a disability, as required by the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
School districts must ensure that students with disabilities have meaningful opportunities to participate in all aspects of school on an equal basis with students without disabilities.
Depending upon the student's individual needs, a school district may be required to provide the following: specialized instruction, modifications to the curriculum, accommodations in non-academic and extra curricular activities, adaptive equipment or assistive technology devices, an aide, assistance with health related needs, school transportation, or other related services and accommodations.
Some ideas to include in a 504 plan*?
1. Extra time to finish assignments when at the health office.
2. Permission to leave the class during standardized and other tests when needed.
3. Teacher needs to re-teach any missed lessons while in the health office.
*Every child has different needs and the 504 should be unique for every student.
Why hasn’t my school talked to me about a 504 Plan?
Not all schools are going to ask you if you want a 504 Plan. They may even tell you that you do not need one, but in my experience you do. Having worked as an Exceptional Student Educator in three different school districts, I will tell you that a 504 Plan is the way to go. It is legally binding between you and the school district for meeting your child’s needs. The school is also required to hold yearly reviews of the plan in order to document that they are meeting your child’s needs. A health plan alone does not address missed class time in the health office or missed standardized tests due to poor blood sugar levels. You may not currently feel you need a 504 Plan, but do not wait until a problem occurs. Better to have a clear understanding of everyone's responsibilities before an issue surfaces.

EVENTS |
We had a blast at the Friends for Life Conference in Orlando, Florida! The children and parents that we spoke with really enjoyed all of the activities offered and informative meetings. If you have considered attending, but weren't sure, make plans for next year. It is absolutely worth the money and effort to get there. We will be there for sure in 2008.
August 22nd at 6:30 pm, we will be at the Dunedin Diabetes Group. They meet at the Dunedin Community Center; 1920 Pinehurst Road, Duneden, FL. If you are interested in attending this meeting, please email: hpukas@tampabay.rr.com or call 727-734-3374 to reserve your seat and gift. |

PRODUCT UPDATES |
The cami bra has been a huge success! We have already sold out of one youth size and one adult size. We placed our reorder with our manufacturer and expect to receive the new bras by August 20th. If you sat on the sideline trying to decide if this product is for you, hurry up and order now. No sense in putting off simplifying your life. We have gotten rave reviews from our customers and countless reorders.
Our boxer briefs for men and boys have had a rocky road through the development process. Apparently, most briefs are manufactured outside of the United States and that has led to extreme difficulty in locating the machinery that can sew the pieces correctly. Plus, we have such high expectations for our undergarment quality that Tricia had to finally fly out to have a face to face meeting with our manufacturing team and work out all of the finer details. We have pushed our expected release date to November 15, 2007. In the meantime, we are going to be reviewing samples in several sizes. We know there is a large contingent of male pump users waiting for this product, and would like to offer a few of you the opportunity to be our product testers. If you would be interested, please email us at info@mykpp.com and put PRODUCT TESTER in the subject line. We will discuss the details after we hear from you.
As always, if you are a customer of KPP and have ideas, suggestions or concerns related to our products, please email us. We take all of your feedback seriously.
