TIPS AND IDEAS

Getting Organized for the New Year

Like many of you, I have resolved to get more organized in tracking my children’s diabetic numbers this year. Now that both of my daughters have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I am working through the chaos that comes with juggling two different treatments and documenting both sets of numbers. Let me share with you two great ways to help us both accomplish this. One is a traditional paper logbook especially made for tracking your diabetes, and the other is an electronic logbook called Diabetes Pilot.

The traditional logbook is made by Day-Timer and comes in both a pocket and full size version. You can take a look at it on the website http://www.daytimer.com/diabetes/ The Day-Time provides space for you to track your blood sugars, carbohydrates eaten and medication taken. This would be a great tool to take in with you to your endo appointments. Also, for those on a pump, it would allow you to make changes in basal rates without having to download it into your computer; particularly if you are uncomfortable with using that feature on your pump.

The Diabetes Pilot is available for your PC, and for some popular hand-held devices. Take a look at http://www.diabetespilot.com This electronic organizer can graph your blood sugars as well as give you averages over days, weeks or even months. It also has carbohydrate lists and can help you calculate your insulin dose.

If you, or someone close to you, are struggling to stay on top of diabetes, join me in taking a more organized approach to the problem. If you have already had some experience with either of these methods for tracking your diabetes, please contact us so we can share your feedback with our KPP family.

PRODUCT UPDATES

We promise you that the boxer briefs are going to be worth the wait. We took delivery of our reworked samples and they are fabulous! The material is incredibly soft and fits like a glove. We chose a material that has some Lycra so that the briefs can easily support the weight of the pump. We incorporated your suggestions into the pocket and it now has a button hole on the backside. So those of you that wear a thigh or bottom site will be able to thread your tubing directly to your site instead of having to feed it over the waistband or under the leg opening.

The next step is to approve our pattern and create sizing samples; one sample in each size we are going to offer. That is where you come in. We have some people that already offered to wear these samples and give feedback, however we do not have one for every size. If you are interested in helping us by wearing one of our samples, please contact us with your email address, name, and underwear size. After we approve all of the sizes are correct, we will place the product order.
